Finishing your garage flooring makes the garage look nicer, and it also provides other benefits such as increased cleaning ease. You have several options in flooring, but these are three of the most popular.

1. Polished Concrete

If budget and simplicity are at the top of your list, then a polished concrete floor is the best option. This uses the existing slab floor that is already in your garage. It is polished to a high shine finish and then sealed so that it resists stains and moisture.

Polished concrete is only a good option if the existing concrete is in good condition, with no large cracks, flaking, or other damage. Minor damage can be patched prior to polishing and finishing, but the patches will be visible on the finished floor. Of course, this simply adds to the vagaries in the appearance of the floor, which some people find attractive. You can minimize the patchwork look by dying the concrete before it is polished.

2. Epoxy

For a more finished look, epoxy flooring is another simple and cost-effective option. Epoxy creates a tough, waterproof finish that resists chipping and peeling because it bonds with the concrete floor of the garage. Stains aren't typically an issue, as epoxy floors can easily be mopped and cleaned. It's also available in a range of colors. You can get creative with it by combining colors if desired, such as to create a checkerboard effect.

Another benefit of epoxy is that it covers minor blemishes in the concrete flooring, such as hairline cracks or minor patchwork. Fix any damages before having the epoxy applied so that they are well covered on the finished floor.

3. Rubber Tile

Although more expensive than the other options, for many homeowners rubber tile is the preferred flooring option in a garage. The tiles provide shock absorbency, which is important if your garage doubles as a shop for working on your car or other projects. Dropped tools won't damage the floor or suffer damage themselves. It's also highly attractive and it comes in a variety of colors and styles.

Rubber tiles are designed to be glued directly to the concrete subfloor. The tiles interlock for added stability so they won't come loose after being driven upon. They are made to resist damages from spills and stains, and they are simple to sweep and mop clean.
