There are gasses that may be in your home that are dangerous. They are even more dangerous as you cannot smell or taste them so you would never know if your home had these gases. Fortunately, there are things you can do about this. Below is information about two gases that you should be concerned with and how you can detect them.

Radon Gas

Radon is found outside in soils but is generally not dangerous because the radon is in low levels. Radon can get inside your home, however, and if so, it is generally at dangerously high levels that can affect you and your family. If your home is built on or near soil that has radon, then you need to be extra careful. Radon is dangerous as it causes lung cancer. Your chances are much more increased if you also smoke.

You can purchase a radon test kit online if you want to test your home yourself. If not, you can hire a professional company to test your home for you. No matter what you choose, you will see the radon levels that your home has. If radon is found, you will need to take steps to remove it from your home. There are different ways this can be done. First, suction pipes can be inserted through a concrete slab or floor and suction the radon out. This is known as depressurization. A vent fan can also be installed in your home that is made to draw out radon gas and then release the gas outside.

To help reduce the chances of your home getting radon again in the future, seal up all cracks that may be in the walls or floors. You can do this by using caulking, plaster, and more.

Carbon Monoxide Gas

Carbon monoxide is another dangerous gas that you cannot smell or taste. This type of gas is produced from gaseous liquids, solid fuels, and appliances that are fueled with LP gas, natural gas, or kerosene. Things in your home that can cause carbon monoxide include your water heater, boiler or furnace, wood or gas fireplaces, gas stoves, and clothes dryers.

If there is carbon monoxide in your home, this can cause things like headaches, vomiting, confusion, chest pain, dizziness, and weakness. If there are high levels of carbon monoxide in your home, this can cause death.

You can purchase a carbon monoxide test online to check if your home has carbon monoxide. You can also hire a company to do this test for you. If found, you will need to determine what is causing the gas and repair the problem. This could be a problem with one of your appliances or a problem with your furnace. No matter what is causing it, you need to open windows and leave your home until the carbon monoxide is gone.

Make sure you install a radon monitor and carbon monoxide detector in your home to protect you and your family. If you think you may have a problem, get radon testing
